In Character Information

character name: Logan Fell
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Timeline: “The Turning Point” after he convinces Damon not to kill him. He speeds away and ends up in Anatole.

character's age: 27

powers, skills, pets and equipment:

As a vampire, Logan Fell has enhanced strength, speed, and agility. He can jump really high. Everything has been amplified including sight, smell and taste. He can hear conversations from across a room. He can compel humans (which means mesmerize them into doing what he wants.)

Because of this, he also has several weaknesses. When it comes to a residence with a human living there (or a human on the deed) he needs to be invited in. This also happened with his own house because he lived alone. Vervain weakens him and burns. He can’t walk in direct sunlight or he will burn, catch fire, and die.

Skills-wise, he’s great at charming the pants off a girl. He’s very believable when he wants to be. But, other than that he has no other discernible skills. He’s a little bit useless in that way. Is lying a skill? He lies very well.

His inventory includes:
[1] green t-shirt
[1] brown jacket
[1] pair of jeans
[1] pair of black socks
[1] pair of black boxers
[1] pair of boots
[1] wallet
[1] ring of keys to the Ramada Inn

canon history:

*Writing it out myself because the wiki is poorly worded.

Logan Fell was born into a founding family. What this meant was that from a very young age he was told about Mystic Falls’ past. He knew about vampires. What their existence meant and that they hadn’t been in town for decades. Maybe centuries. He was popular enough in high school and dated Jenna Sommers. During their relationship, Logan cheated on her with a girl named Monica. It took time to win her back, but finally – he did – only to cheat on her again and as she puts it, “…drive her away from Mystic Falls.” Jenna returned for the funeral of her sister, Miranda and Miranda’s husband but he wasn’t sure if he should approach her.

Logan runs into Jenna for the first time in ages at the Founder’s Party. Slowly, he whittles away her resolve until she agrees to have lunch with him. Charming her at lunch, he next sees Jenna while covering the Mystic Falls’ high school car wash. Elena asks for a ride to the station because of a research paper she has. He tries to see if this will put him in Jenna’s good graces but she doesn’t answer either way. Despite that, he agrees to give Elena the ride before requesting dinner that night. Jenna hopes he’s good with leftovers. Oh, he loves leftovers. Logan shows Elena the equipment before leaving her alone with it. Unbeknownst to anyone, Logan is also on the town’s Founders Council which is now aware that vampires have returned to town. Taking a break from dinner, Logan heads upstairs and finds Jonathon Gilbert’s pocket watch in Jeremy’s room.

Mayor Lockwood uses the pocket watch to make a completely separate device, a vampire compass which points in the direction of a vampire. The next night, Logan, Sheriff Forbes and other deputies go on an old fashioned vampire hunt. Logan follows the arrow and calls Sheriff Forbes, telling her to head towards one of the cemeteries. He comes upon Stefan and a transitioning Vicki. Logan fires several rounds of wooden bullets into Stefan before his brother Damon snaps Logan’s neck. Vicki moves to Logan’s body and feeds from his neck to finish her transition.

Because a vampire named Anna had been feeding him blood (and probably compelling him after, she needed access to his ancestor Honoraria Fell’s journal), Logan wakes up in the ground off the highway behind a gas station. The sheriff covered his murder up. Off screen, he begins killing. A lot. He can’t stop himself. At some point Anna contacts him and divulges her eventual plan having to do with getting into the vampire tomb.

Logan ends up on Jenna’s doorstep but she isn’t having it. She’s unimpressed with the break-up E-mail she was sent. Logan tries to explain, tries to get her to invite him in but Elena encourages her aunt not to and Jenna closes the door in his face. Damon finds him in an abandoned warehouse which Logan counts on. He’s there, ready and waiting, packing heat loaded with wooden bullets. He injures Damon enough before giving him the second degree. He wants to know how Damon and Stefan go out in the day time. He wants to. He also divulges that he woke up alone, that he’s been learning everything on his own.

Plugging a few more rounds into Damon, Logan leaves the vampire there before paying a visit to career night at Mystic Falls high school. Elena pulls Jenna away from him and Stefan confronts him. Logan also threatens Sheriff Forbes. He tells her that he’ll turn her daughter. He even offers Caroline a ride. After Caroline gets into his car he pushes her head against the door, knocking her unconscious. Damon catches up to Logan’s truck and they fight while Stefan rescues Caroline. Before Damon can stake him, Logan pleads with him. He has leverage. He knows how to get into the tomb to get Katherine out. Damon tells him to make it look convincing. Logan throws Damon into his truck before speeding away.

Later on, Alaric Saltzman, the new history teacher in town tracks Logan to the warehouse. He threatens him and Logan, always a cocky one, attacks but is staked by Alaric. He dies for the second and last time.

personality:

On the surface, Logan Fell is a confident, pretty face. He became an on camera reporter because he is charismatic, easy on the eyes and good at what he does. But, like an ogre and onions, Logan Fell is layered. What I’ll touch on later is how becoming a vampire really messes with his layers. The deepest layer, the layer engrained into him since childhood, is his devotion to Mystic Falls and the Founder’s Council. It is revealed that Logan, being on the council, is in the know regarding vampires. Some might say his loyalty could fall under the blind faith column. He was raised with it so that is all that Logan knows. At the end of the day, his loyalty lay with them. I’m using the past tense because, after being turned that loyalty disappears, immediately. It is the biggest irony in his character.

Above that would be his love for Jenna Sommers and the remorse he feels from betraying her. There aren't many "real" moments. From the get go, Logan seems like an operator but, I think a part of him really feels guilt for cheating on Jenna. He just never holds himself accountable for his actions. When he wants to be he can be a gentleman.

Logan Fell was the town golden boy. He was the youngest on the Town Council but he was fully capable. Because of all of this, he is very arrogant and his arrogance is amplified as a vampire. He’s curious because he’s a reporter and he’s nosy. He’s sweet when he wants to be. But, he can also just be a straight up ass.

Again, when a vampire in the TVD universe is turned, their traits are amplified. As a vampire, Logan is cockier, overconfident, arrogant and vain. But, he also has to deal with something he’s pushed down from day one: his love for Jenna Sommers. As a human, upon running back into Jenna, he immediately seeks amends. He worms his way back into her good graces. She agrees to lunch. He apologizes. He means it. But, he also takes advantage of her putting her guard down and infiltrates the Gilbert home, getting his hands on the Gilbert family pocket watch. In this way, Logan is devious. When it comes to the council, he will lie, keep their secret. As a vampire, he won’t blink an eye at lying. But, he also has ceased to care about lying. He speaks very glibly and honestly throughout. He speaks his feelings because he’s not used to dealing with them.

As a human, he compartmentalized his duties on the council. As a vampire, everything bleeds together. His ability to compartmentalize shifts. Over time, he'll probably be able to work on his compartmentalization. In fact, turning off his emotions shouldn't be that difficult for him since he really did that, daily.

He also has trouble dealing with his desire to kill people. Instead of feeling guilty from killing, he revels in it, viewing people as meal tickets. Back in Mystic Falls, the bodies pile up. He kills and kills and kills because it’s in his nature. He wasn’t turned with a handy instruction manual sitting there for when he woke up. He’s exploring the learning curve. As angry as he is at the vampire that made him one, he’s more obsessed with how Damon and Stefan Salvatore walk in the sun during the day. He spends a lot of the episode threatening Damon and trying to get him to fess up. How does he do it? The curiosity he had as a reporter translated into obsession as a vampire. He will get his story.

Logan Fell is not a bad guy. He may be an ass. But, he also has good qualities. He can be very sweet and romantic. He will be Jenna’s punching bag as long as it means he can get her back. As a human he will never stop apologizing if he doesn’t have to. He legitimately wants to make it up to her. He’s also helpful. While, he does help Elena with the flirtatious intention of getting in good with her aunt, he still helps Elena. When it comes to his deception, he also believes by stealing the pocket watch he’s keeping Jenna, the Gilbert’s and the town safe from a vampire. As a human, he didn’t always watch his words and now as a vampire, he openly insults and gives backhanded compliments. He's a vampire that tries every angle. If buttering someone up doesn’t work, then he’ll try to compliment them or force them. He will continue to try different tactics until they work.

Logan Fell is also a dishonest guy. He cheated on Jenna. Twice. He drove her away from Mystic Falls but he does regret doing that. He was young. And he can’t help if women are drawn to him. He will use you if it means getting something he wants.

Logan Fell as a vampire is psychotic and unable to deal with a lot of his emotions. He threatens Sheriff Forbes, kidnaps Caroline – all to spite her. Because he feels like it. Logan is that spoiled, asshole joke who was once the town’s golden boy and that went to his head. So, as a vampire, he feels a bit entitled. But, he’s also a hot mess. He says that he has these intense feelings for his ex girlfriend. That he wants to bite her and be with her. And stuff. His love is now passion. His dislike is now hate. A part of Logan would even defend and protect Jenna if it comes down to it. And by proxy, possibly Elena/her friends to show Jenna he cares and wants her approval.

In some ways for him, being a vampire is kind of really cool. It’s crazy and it’s a bitch that he woke up alone. And even though Anna found him, she wasn’t the best teacher. So, learning things is just annoying. And frustrating. He feels out of control. He has impulses that he just follows because he wants to. He’s a little like a stray puppy who never had an owner. He’s unpredictable, erratic, and violent. But, there’s good in him there, somewhere. He just has to be reminded.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

It’s a darker setting and considering how he’s currently calibrated so-to-speak, he’s extremely unpredictable. He’s still a baby vampire. He’s erratic and he’ll gain all kinds of CR. Depending on if his ex-girlfriend gets in, confronting all of his issues there head on will be good for him. And having other vampires there that could ultimately help him mean that there’s hope. Good, bad, Logan is definitely unpredictable, but he’s also fun. While Isobel is an isolated/polarizing character, Logan will be downright chatty. And nosy. Plus, he’d rather not be staked. And this stops him from being staked. Being staked back at home, anyway. During my last rewatch, I really fell in love with his character in the few episodes he was in. Him as a vampire was endlessly fascinating and just plain fun. Isobel thinks. Logan just turns his brain off.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:

[ He's bored. Logan Fell is bored because he can't go out during the day. What kind of life is this? ]

So, here's a story. Stop me if you heard it. Man wakes up in a strange room. He's sure he hasn't been in this room before, that he wasn't in this room. He thinks, oh, maybe it's a test. He racks his brain for why. Why would there be... this kind of a test. I don't know, either. So, the guy thinks, okay, not a test. What is it? Apparently, a dimensional door.

You might say that guy is crazy but if that guy's crazy then so are all of you. Anatole, right? I've managed to pick up a few tidbits here and there. This isn't... Mystic Falls.

But, this city does have fine folks from Mystic Falls. Damon? Can I have a word? Or, Caroline. Forbes? Do you still want to be a reporter? You really have the face for it.

Seriously. Just a second.

Third Person Sample:

Logan Fell’s eyes shot open. His room smelled different. The Ramada Inn smelled like cleaning products. And chips. At least, his room did. But, this room, this room that he didn’t recognize didn’t have a discernible smell.

“Anna?” he called out, sitting up. He decided it was better than waking up on the side of the road in the dirt. He was clean. All ready that was a step up. And again, he’d gotten what he’d wanted. He always had a way of getting what he wanted. Damon had spared his life, all because he’d revealed something he probably shouldn’t have. But, he would deal with that when the time came. Was that what this was? Was Anna angry? It was still hard to take her seriously. Kid looked years younger than him yet somehow, she had all the strength needed to break his neck. Like Damon had done to him. Anna hadn’t liked questions. But, she’d promised to explain something. And then, nothing. Nada. Radio silence. He was on his own. If he had the strength and the means, he was going to have violent words with her.

He got up before stopping short, spotting an end to the shadows revealing light streaming in from the window.

“Damn it,” he said, taking an instinctive step back. He couldn’t leave. He was stuck here until nightfall. Grabbing the nearest object, he picked it up ready to throw it before realizing that it was – what was it? He cocked his head bringing it down.

Anything else? ...Anything else? :D

REVISIONS

[ an addition to the third person sample to break 300 words ]

It looked like a phone but it couldn’t be because his phone was in his pocket – which was what he remembered. As he shoved a hand in his pocket, he realized he didn’t have a phone. Phones weren’t exactly his priority back home. He brought this phone up, however. Whoever’s it was, this phone was his now. Finders, keepers, he figured. He gave another glance back at the beam of light. It was mocking him. And trapping him.

Damn it.

CANON EXPLANATION

In canon, Isobel and Logan have never been on screen together. Their paths could've crossed while Logan was in high school and Isobel was a teenager visiting but his eyes were always on Jenna. They're never met. Isobel is a character Logan would probably stay away from, especially for the kind of character she is.

As for personality, Jenna could really ground him. He is a baby vampire. There's so much to learn and to regulate where Isobel is established. She's turned her emotions off.

All that said, I'm willing to concede one for the other if I have to. This is my way of trying to work through my stiffness with Isobel, a very polarizing character. But, if the issue is they're too close, I have no problem swapping one for the other.
